Help me try and save

Lorraine2008
I earn around £1000 per month. However, I find I only see £700 of it. I seem to spend a fortune on food and fuel and then need any money I put a side for unexpected bills.
I know I don't sound it, but I am careful with money. I lost my job as a teacher and have never found another post because of the stiff competition. So I can't improve my situation.
I could cry.

Hi Lorraine - perhaps you could clarify your post. Are you currently earning and looking to build an emergency cushion or are you saying you are unemployed and need to survive and find a new job?
If you are unemployed and trying to survive I suggest a) making sure you are signing on and are getting all the benefits you are entitled to and b) going through all your bills with a fine tooth comb to weed out any that are non-essential that can be cancelled and also shop around to check that everything is as cheap as it can be.
Re looking for a job have you tried the up your income board to try and raise some cash and also the job seeking board?
Re managing on a small amount of money (ie JSA) try the debt free wannabe board.
If it savings advice - ie where to put savings or how much to try and save of disposable income then this is probably the best board.
Best of Luck

No, I am in a job and earning £1000 per month. Yet I seem to be in my overdraft all the time.
It some how seems wrong that I am in this situation. I could understand it if I bought clothes, shoes and went out a lot, but I don't.
I seem to be spending far too much on food and fuel and have nothing left for savings.0 -
Post a Statement of Affairs and people can help you with budgeting. There may be options such as cheaper rent, changing fuel provider, cutting back on fuel consumption, etc. There's loads of tips on these forums on how to cut back on food bills too.0

There is a tool on this site to help you track your costs and see where your money goes. It might be a good strating point. See this page for details:
