No satellite signal

My TV just stopped receiving signal today. (there's a message on the screen telling me this). Its never happened before and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions please. I have a horrible feeling a £100 later with someone coming round it might work but would like to avoid this if possible. Thanks.
PS I don't have Sky - but there's a Sky dish on our house from previous occupants and I use SKy controls to choose channels - the few of them that I get. Not sure why this is either.

What is the exact message?0

Either the dish has moved slightly out of line or the connections have come loose.
Try moving the dish with a stick and shaking the connections on the sat box about.0 -
Turn the sky box off at the wall, wait a minute, then turn back on.
Rebooting works with mine when it happens every so often.0 -
Thanks everyone. The message just said no sattelite signal was being received. I think it is working now as there is a picture at least. Will check tomorrow.0

As squiggle says, reboot it. Sometimes you have to leave it switched off for a while. You will have to disconnect it from the mains rather than just turning it off with the remote.0
