Best Sky Package recommendations please

Hi, I currently have:
Sky freetime calls (£11.25 line rental increasing to £12.25 shortly)
Sky Freeview TV
Sky Broadband Unlimited
Total = £22/month.
However, my new flatmate wants to upgrade the package to Sky TV with a couple of mixes (£10 + £1/mix).
It's an old Sky Plus box without the Sky+ feature.
I was thinking that I could say I was leaving the property and that I was 'referring a friend'. He could then set up the package with a Sky+ box, AND we could get some referral deal if there is one..?
I just entered all the requests into the sky website and it gave me a price of £49.50/month???? There'd be a £30 set up fee for the Sky+ box (offset with £50 of M&S vouchers).

For the TV element, Sky TV + 1 Entertainment pack is £19.50. Add £1 more for each other pack you require, assuming you don't want premium packs like Sports and Movies.
Best Entertainment pack is "Variety" unless you are very Arty or Sciencey.
What exactly was the question, was that the answer to the question or an answer to another question?0 -
Firstly, could you be specific about what package you put into the website?
For 1 mix (Variety Pack), Sky Line Rental, Sky Freetime Calls and Sky Unlimited Broadband the monthly cost is £38.25.
I'm assuming that the package you entered was 2 mixes and a HD subscription which carries a £10.25 additional fee?
As for saying that you're leaving the property and trying to get a deal, while you could do that you'd have to be very careful that your broadband and phone services were transferred properly to your flatmate as otherwise you may find disruption to your service.0 -
No HD at all.
The question was more to do with the best way of getting Sky+ with 2 mixes (plus phone and broadband of course).Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

£49.50 isn't correct then. You must have added something else by accident - if you selected a Sky HD box it might have added HD sub by default, although both the Sky+ and Sky HD options for boxes give you the same box. Two mixes, and the rest, should be £39.25.
I couldn't really say the best way of getting the package you want. Have you phoned Sky up though and asked if they have any deals for new TV customers? They may be able to offer you something even if you're already a broadband and talk customer.0 -
a tip for anyone signing up to sky.
always sign up to the cheapest base price deal they offer. EG. the one entertainment pack option. once signed up THEN upgrade the £1 per pack.
i mistakenly signed up to shky world and i am stuck paying the high monthly cost even though i dont watch all the channels until contract ends.
if you sign up to base package. this is your contract minimum... upgrades after contract signup are adjustable.
same goes for phones. go for the lowest monthly cost per month even if it means u get nothing inclusive.
once signed up, then upgrade to the higher tarrif you want which gives you the inclusive minutes..
for example
i wanted a HTC
one offer £25 base package - no extras . £35 with 350minutes and unlimited texts. so i sign up to the £25 deal initially and then upgrade it to the £35 tarrif. thus if money becomes tight i can downgrade to £25 without issue and with no ties.
hope this helps
i learned the hard way. such is life
never sign up to skyworld with HD channels on a new contract. it may sting you later when times become hard.0 -
The cheapest way of getting Sky+ is simply to buy a Sky+ box for peanuts on eBay (or free on freegle) and swap it yourself-no need to pay Sky anything.
There are hundreds of these available with the move to HD.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

But will this work if I am on the Freesat from Sky package?
I just have a basic box and would like a Sky+ box but assumed that the Skyplus box wouldn't work when I put my Freesat card in.0 -
No it won't-to get the Sky+ service you need a Sky sub. Sorry, I read your 'upgrade the package' line as meaning that you already had a basic Sky sub.
A Sky+ box will work with the viewing card once it's paired, but you can only get the PVR functions with a Sky sub, or by paying £10 a month without.
If you primarily want Sky+ functions you'd be better off buying a Freesat PVR, such as the Humax Foxsat HDR. No sub required, and a straight box swap (as long as you have a twin feed from the LNB).No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks macman. I will take your advice and get a Freesat PVR.0
