sending to a different address?

Morning everyone!

I've sold something on ebay and the buyer has over 300 feedback at 100% , all for buying. He's bought my item then messaged to ask if i'll send it to a different address as it's a present for a friend. I have done this before on occasion but this time i'm slightly wary for a couple of reasons and just want to check if i'd still be covered by paypal seller protection? I obviuosly have the messaged through ebay, that I could produce if need be, which show him giving me the other address.

Any help appreciated , Thanks , Deb

You need to send to the address paypal say ok to send to. They need to add the new address as a Gift address. You need to refund them then they need to add the new address then pay. Then they should be able to pick the new address.

problem is i've stupidly withdrawn the money from my paypal account already as , is his first message to me , he said he would add the address on paypal but he didn't as i've seen once i've got on the laptop this morning. So if i refund him now , it's gonna take 5-7 days for it to transfer back from my bank. I know I can send money directly via an instant bank transfer but I don't seem to have that option for a refund? Agghhhhhh can't be doing with this on a monday morning! lol

right. you should not agree or send any item to an address that is NOT a registered paypal account. the main reason is FRAUD. say i hacked into your paypal account and then ordered something and paid using your paypal account and then told the seller to send to my address (i give him a friends address) and the seller sends this, so you have paid for my item which was sent to an address that was not mine, so nothing to lead back to me.

this is how fraudsters will work. i NEVER send to any other address other than what is registered with paypal.

disaster averted! I emailed the buyer and explained I couldn't send to his friend as he hadn't added the address on his paypal account so would have to send to him and he can send it on himself and he said thats fine , so perhaps he wasn't dodgy after all. oh well , didn't fancy risking it with a £150 item with my luck lately!

I'm glad you solved it, for future reference though this is a handy guide to postage requirements for paypal protection:
