Can an Ordinary TV work with a Blu-Ray DVD Player?

Can someone please advise me as to whether it would be possible to use a Blu-Ray DVD player to provide the signal to an ordinary TV, and whether all Blu-Ray DVD players have the appropriate output?
Are there any Blu-Ray characteristics that would cause problems to an ordinary TV, and would such an arrangement achieve a picture quality equivalent to playing an ordinary DVD?
With the prices of Blu-Ray DVDs dropping, it seems pointless buying any more ordinary DVDs, so I am considering buying a Blu-Ray player in advance of upgrading the TV.

If the Blu-ray player has a SCART socket, and your TV also has a SCART socket, then yes it will work (although you won't see the HD part obviously).Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0

Yes if the blu ray player has either scart or av sockets, as killerwatt states you would not get any of the HD features.0
