ebay will only be interested in the seller actually selling pirated software, report the seller to ebay0

Unlike many on here, I have no qualms about using fake software, pirated DVDs, etc. I always think that if the legit companies charged more realistic prices instead of profiteering, the pirate trade would die anyway.
However, I am bright enough to realise that, when you're breaking some law or other, it's probably better to keep my head down while doing it.
Companies have to make a profit as well. Just because you don't like the pricing doesn't mean it's acceptable to rip it off. If you don't like the price, don't use the item!
hubby got stung on buying software a bit like this off Ebay once. Discs for Sat Nav for a built in car system. THankfully we got our money back THEN reported him. I went mad, I would never have bought such an item off ebay, as I am not gullible enough, unfortunately he was. :mad:0 -

As the law currently stands in the UK, it is not illegal to knowingly buy counterfeit goods. (unless you are involved in downloading from the internet as in this instance you are classed as manufacturing due to the fact that you are making a copy). You can have counterfeits taken from you if you import them into the UK, but again, you will not be prosecuted unless customs think you are importing to sell.
You can be prosecuted for making or selling fakes, but not for buying them.
Some EU countries have made the purchase of fakes illegal and do prosecute for this, but for some strange reason, the UK has yet to implement this law.
A quick search of the internet will find many sites that state things such asIn the UK, it is illegal to sell fake goods but not against the law to buy them. However, tourists caught buying fake goods abroad can be prosecuted.
In France, for example, the maximum fine for buying fake goods is 300,000 euros (£246,000) or three years in jail.
Holidaymakers are also face having counterfeit purchases seized at ports and airports as they return to Britain, if they are detected by the UK Border Agency.
The report, for the British Journal of Criminology, estimates that up to three million consumers every year buy counterfeit goods.
Nearly a third of the sales are now over the internet.
I'm not saying that I agree with the practice, simply correcting the posts where people claimed that knowing buying fakes was illegal.0 -

yes a profit is needed. a few years ago myself and a mate created a piece of software that would help recover data from crashed HDD. we looked at bringing this to market. we found a company that could print these on disc. a unit cost to manufacture then was £2.50, we than needed to add something to cover our time for the software and then sell it to a distributor who adds his profit margin, he then sells to a wholesaler who adds his profit margin, he then sells to a retailer who adds his profit margin.
so this £2.50 produced disc will now be £15 for the end user to purchase0 -
That sounds most reasonable - unlike many other products. If everyone worked your way, there wouldn't be much of a pirate market would there?0
