in Credit cards
I'm about to open a student bank account and want to know whether by operating this correctly I will make any significant improvement to my credit history, or whether it would be better to take out a 'bad credit' credit card and use this to build it up?

It will help. If it comes with an overdraft then that showing will help as well. Try not to use it though. Id say get an 'initial card'. Try barclaycard as capital one customer service isnt great (imo!) then use it for normal spending and pay the balance in full. After twelve months of using right you should definately be able to get a much better card! If you have a mobile phone contract that helps to. often banks will offer students a credit card with the student bank a/c. usually has a low limit 250 or 500
use it regularly but only for things you buy anyway and pay in full every month to avoid interest
I would suggest that you set up a DD so you never forget; if you are late paying then this will make your credit rating worse rather than better.0
