Strange old world of ebay

Tonight I sold something on the third time of listing. The first two times I listed for a start price of £5.99, had loads of watchers both times, but no bidders.
I relisted this time starting at £4.99 & it's just sold for a little over £24. The going price seems to be anything from £10-£20 ish.
I'd love to know whether something starting at under a fiver seems to be a bargain price & people get caught up in auction fever, or if it's just simply that today I had the right sort of watchers.
Maybe the middle of the month is better than the end of the month. although I would have thought that people would be short of money.
Mind you it's not been paid for so hopefully, the watchers have become buyers & not just bidders.
Not that I'm complaining just having a little ponder, I really need to get out more.

When I've been looking for specific item, I've noticed that the ones that start with 99p frequently go for much more than the ones that have a "realistic" start price. I think people go for the 99p ones thinking this might be the one that goes for a bargain price. Then you get into a bidding war, so they do a snipe for a reasonable price and add a bit just to make sure... In the end, the one that starts at £50 gets one bid while the "99p bargain" goes for £99!:rotfl:

The same goes for the ones that have a 99p start and a reserve price - no chance of a bargain so few bidders.
