Can i claim PPI back if i still have it?

Hi hope someone can give me some advice my partner has PPI on his credit card, he doesnt recall ever asking for it to be added so i was going to ask about claiming it back but because we still have it on the card would this still be considered a valid claim? The reason he left it on the card was because at the end of last year his job was insecure but to be honest we just want to pay the card off and the payment each month is only adding more money onto the card.

    Hi there

If you feel this was mis sold, you can make a reclaim with your reasons you have.

Details on making a reclaim below - step 3 to reclaim questionnaire, send to the ones who set up your account (main/head office), and allow 8 weeks. (keep copies in case you need to refer to this again at some point), good luck.

    In short, yes.

You seem to imply you wanted the PPI though by leaving it on the card just in case? (his job being insecure). If you worded that as your complaint I don't think they would really think it was missold to you?

    I disagree.

That PPI was added without the informed consent of the customer, the fact that the customer subsequently thought it might be a good idea is irrelevant to the consideration of whether the policy was mis-sold.

I was just saying what a bank would no doubt say, if you kept it going cause you thought you might need it then perhaps that could imply that you needed to be insured. I was only meaning that to add that to the complaint could hinder it perhaps. I would just complain that no choice was given (if that be the case) and leave it at that.

Gotcha. Yes I agree - it has no bearing on the complaint.

thanks everyone for your responses i have sent off a letter to barclays and asked for repayment of PPI as i felt it was initially mis-sold i havent mentioned the fact that we did at one point leave it on because my partners job was insecure. I will now await their response.

Can I ask how you worded your letter? I am in the same boat with my CC that I have had forever and a day and wondered how you went about phrasing the mis sold policy.

I'm rubbish at this sort of thing ;)
