Thanks, but they're the ones that I mentioned I'd seen that are for normal seatbelts, I want exactly that sort of thing but to fit the car seat buckle instead.0

I have a britax prince and my son cant undo the buckle although he has tried, only thing is he can gets his arms out of the straps regardless of how tight i make it (so annoying). i would take the car seat back to the shop as its simply not fit for purpose. Im not sure if any universal covers for the buckle exists but just be careful as they are often designed to be easy released in case of accident so probably best not to cover it with anything homemade
hope you get it sorted

Thanks, mine also has a Prince but can't undo that one either, just the Evolva.leos-mummy wrote: »I have a britax prince and my son cant undo the buckle although he has tried
Well I spoke to Britax, where a lady helpfully assured me I wasn't alone as lots of 'little treasures' can undo their car seat buckles. She only referred to children as little treasures for the whole conversation which was really annoying! She informed me it was purely a matter of discipline, and I need to find something that encourages him to stop unclipping it -reward stickers, shouting, explaining nicely and bribery were her favourites! Also stopping the car each time he does it, although 1)of course we do that anyway to clip him back in, and 2)that would not bother him in the slightest, he would hardly be upset that the journey to Asda/Town Centre etc has been stopped. We mostly walk anywhere that's of interest to him.
She told me their advice is to look on the ROSPA website and there is a section on little treasures escaping their car seats, with a list of things they suggest to stop it happening (from what I can gather, it's a similar list to what she suggested above), although I can't find it, I seem to end up going round in circles on the website.
She also said you can't get anything to cover the buckle like you can with a seatbelt, and if you did it would be dangerous. It's purely an issue with your little treasure not listening to you. I wasn't looking to use something home-made of course, but now at least I know there isn't a similar device to the seatbelt one.
I'm not sure how much a 23 month old can understand when you try and explain why he has to stay clipped into the car seat. I have tried explaining, telling off, rewards/bribery etc but it like anything he comes across, once he knows how to work it, he keeps on doing it, to demonstrate his cleverness or something I suppose.
Does anyone have any ideas then for getting him to leave it alone? The main problem I have with explaining why, is that I can't show him the consequences. I can explain that it's dangerous, if we have an accident he will get injured, but he's never come across that before to link it to what I'm telling him so doesn't understand.
May also try Mothercare to see if they will exchange it.0 -
How about giving him something really interesting/rattly/fiddly to play with to keep him occupied. My son used to hold onto a toy steering wheel with clicky indicators etc when he was very small.
Actually now I REALLY think about it, the thing that occupied him most was having two sisters to fihgt with!Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
I know this is a bit late but I've just seen someone mention car seat safety clips on Netmums and I remembered this thread from last month...

A possible solution?0 -
Pink clouds its a great idea but useless if her son can undo the clip, its aimed at kids sliding their arms out from the straps rather than unclipping them. IYSWIM.0
