VANQUIS - took my payment twice, now have locked my account !!!

I was of the impression that credit card co's are limited to £12 default fees....
It's my current account that are charging the fees.
Vanquis took the payment out by direct debit even though I had already paid by debit card the week before, leaving me short for my other bills and pushing me over my overdraft limit.
I didn't default with Vanquis, in fact my account went over £200 in credit! :mad:0 -
It wasn't the credit card that charged the fees, it was OP's bank, as a result of Vanquis taking a direct debit they said they wouldn't take.
Thankfully OP has it in writing from Vanquis that they wouldn't take the DD so has enough written proof to demand a refund of charges.
OP - I would seek damages as Vanquis will have lowered your account score with the bank, ergo they have defamed your character, as a result of taking money they wrote to you stating they wouldn't take.
The consequential loss of this could be infinite.
Typical f****ing vanquis though, when I held a Chatham Chav I paid my bill via my banks online banking the day it landed. Guess I made the right choice
(Some of us call the Vanquis card a "Chatham Chav" as that's where they're based; and the call centre staff come across as rether chavish)Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

D'oh! I miss the point again.
I cut up my vanquis last weekend, but they are amazingly chavvy on the phone.....Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
Oh, this made me glad I tried for Aqua rather than Vanquis... because those were the only two I would have really stood a chance with. My dealings with Aqua over the phone have been helpful and pleasant.
I'm glad you're getting it dealt with. Yikes!0 -

I was actually considering setting up DD with Barclaycard today for the full amount on my VISA card. Decided against it. Barclaycard for me have been pretty great at what they do, but I still wouldn't risk it. I prefer to have the control over making the payments. My account receive paperless statements, I log on a lot, plus they send the statement via email the day it is created and access via iPhone not too mention have the date in my calender each month which alerts me, so I can never not be aware when to make the payment. Had other companies like Sky in the past take out DD despite making a payment. With a DD I always feel wires get crossed at some point. Either you pay and they take a DD out or you don't pay and they don't take a DD out. Very frustrating.0

Same happened to me and it's a pain in the back side. I did have enough in my account to cover it though.
Now, when I get a new credit card, I usually just spend a couple of quid (literally) to check whether it's setup right.0 -
UPDATE
After Vanquis acknowledged my complaint (took 3 weeks) they sent me a letter saying that they had 56 days to reply.
I wasn't holding out much hope, but last week, I received a letter from them, apologising for the error, saying they had passed it onto the relevant manager to ensure it doesn't happen again.
They refunded my £40.00 and also offered to write to my bank to explain the error (incase they had registered a default, which they hadn't)
All in all, worth sending the letter and aside from the time taken to resolve, I am very happy with the customer service from Vanquis!0 -
Good.
Have them write to BOI and copy you in on the correspondence, as although you didn't get negative data on your credit file, it will have harmed your internal score with the bank.
Glad you got the £40 back, let us know how you get on with them sorting out your lower a/c score with BOI
Good luck!
