Seller request to cancel item after collecting it from seller

I bought an item on ebay and as it was a bulky item, one of the delivery options available was collection from the seller, paying cash on delivery. I went to collect it today, and took it away. I have just received a message from ebay saying the seller has made a request to cancel the transaction saying:

"Reason for request to cancel the transaction: The seller did not provide a specific reason.

Seller comment: Hi please could you confirm to cancel this auction. thank you

Click the 'Respond now' button to accept or decline this cancellation."

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening - are they simply trying to cancel it to avoid paying their seller fees to ebay or something like that? The email says that if I don't respond the seller can simply cancel the transaction. Obviously I can respond and say that I don't agree with cancelling as the transaction was in fact completed, but if the seller has some agenda in cancelling the transaction what could the implications be of doing that?

On that basis, I am concerned that if I reply and say that I don't agree with cancelling - which is what I should do really to reflect the fact the transaction is completed - the seller will give me negative feedback. Also as they have raised a "dispute" in order to make this request for cancellation, will this be held as a black mark on my ebay account? Should I reply to it or not?

A seller cannot leave the buyer negative feedback, Only a buyer has the option of leaving negative feedback

That's good to know re negative feedback! If I just accept the cancellation for an easy life (as opposing it will no doubt lead to correspondance, and possibly conflict with the seller which to be honest I can do without) is there any downside to me doing this?

Must say I'm surprised about this, seller seemed a very pleasant person!

It isn't a dispute it is a mutual cancellation. A seller as stated above cannot leave a neg for a buyer.
Personally I wouldn't agree to it, if I was concerned about the seller getting ar5ey I would play dumb & respond, saying that you think that they must have confused 2 transactions up as you have collected & paid on collection & turn down the mutual.
Or pretend you haven't got it, I know dishonest & leave feedback first saying that you've received it etc. Then answer the mutual saying sorry already left feedback.

For you probably not unless the seller does this regularly & ebay are watching his transactions.

You need to make your decision.

If you don't act, the mutual 'times out' at 7 days and the seller is reimbursed their fees. If you accept, they are reimbursed, if you decline they don't.

I know it was cash on collection anyway, not sure about any come back on that, but if you agree you invalidate the transaction and make absolutely sure you have no way of complaining if necessary. Again, may be totally irrelevant anyway, might depend on if the seller is a business or personal seller.

There is absolutely no way you can get in troubloe for this, AT ALL. Its up to you whether you want to let the seller keep the fees, or ebay. It really is as simple as that. Like macfly I would have thought they would have offerd you a sweetener though. Also did the item go really cheap or for about its worth anyway, just out of curiosity?
