Lost a month on my TV licence?

Moved into our house end of June last year, and, being good, applied for a TV licence on 30th June, with delivery confirmation by e-mail.

On the same day they sent through a confirmation that I was licenced, and gave the number. The following day they sent a mail giving me details on how to log on to view it. I confess I never did! (why would I - I had the number)

Anyway, fast forward to today, I get a renewal reminder through the post - runs out on 31st May!

Double checked my old e-mails, nope I bought it 30th June 2010.

Do they run it from the beginning of the month you apply then? I can't see anything on the application to say that - I would have waited an extra day if so - we didn't even unpack the tv for a week anyway!

Anyone know what the rules are?

They work the same as the VED for cars, if you take it out at any time during a month, it starts from the beginning of that month, you should have waited the extra day.

    TV Licensing;-
    (second Q),
"A person needs a TV Licence from the day they first install or use television receiving equipment - which can be on any day of the month - while the Licence expiry date is fixed i.e. Licences are set to expire on one of 12 end-of- month dates."

Although strictly speaking that statement is wrong, as you do not need a licence to install a TV, but to watch live, (as broadcast), TV.
