Hi, my sister had her phone stolen 2 weeks ago. She is on a contract with Vodafone. She ordered a new Sim card and bought a brand new phone herself.

As she has been away on holiday this week I activated her replacement sim card and started putting some contacts in on her new phone. Obviously I could only put those in that I had on my phone ie family members and mutual friends.

Anyway last night after sending her somke photos of her grand kids I just double checked over the contacts and was surprised to find all of her contacts there, numbers that I know I didnt possibly have.

How did this happen? Brand new sim, phone and memory card. I know when my daughter had her phone stolen a few years back it took her weeks to gather all her contacts again.

Exactly what happened depends on the model of handset. But for the majority of phones sold nowadays (all but the basic), its usual to keep your contacts automatically synced or backed up in the Cloud. For example, Vodafone 360 or Google.

Of course, someone else may have decided to put contact details in.

Sounds like either its been google synced if its a android phone or possible as techhead states the vodafone 360 service has done a cloud sync.

Bear in mind that even a feature phone can sync with 360, O2 Bluebook, Google etc. Using SyncML and often come setup and ready to go.

    Thanks all for your replies.

It all must have been stored in the cloud as mentioned. It is a Blackberry phone.

There is no way anyone else could've added some of the phone numbers as I didn't have them and the phone never left my house.
