Bcc addresses showing in email

Someone has emailed me and there are a bunch of addresses in the Bcc field of the email I received. How is that possible? Does this mean Bcc is not really that effective?

I have seen it when you have a multidrop mailbox sat on an ISP and they only keep one version of the email when it was sent to 2 people in the domain. 1 with To: and 1 with Bcc:. Very bad behaviour by the ISP. Perhaps something similar is going on here.

  • Once i clicked Reply to all by mistake and the address that was in the BCC field showed up!

And I always thought the Bcc field did not appear in the message at all! I guess it's not THAT confidential. And I guess spammers can read it too.
