Cost of wedding flowers (and everything else!)

Comments

  • Read this in anticipation as flowers are next on my list! Sorry - no quotes yet, but a few comments...

I love chair covers :) but we're having lycra ones as they're cheaper - our quote is £2 per chair instead of £2.75 for the poly covers (inc. bows & set up)
Photographs - £500 is more than doable, but is the one thing that we've indulged in - ours is £1500 (with some framed pics/albums for us & parents etc)
Registrar - costing around £350 to come to the venue! Plus the giving notice costs (which have to be done twice as we don't live in the area we've getting married), plus certifiactes, admin etc..expecting this to total around £500
Our DJ is £175 - a small saving for you!!
Cake - for 140 guests I think you're estimate is a bit low - but if you're creative and buy the tiers from a supermarket & decorate yourself, this will be cheaper
Bridesmaid dress - I had a similar budget and really struggled to find dresses within it - although it IS possible!
Rings - again, bought yet, but I'm also looking for an 18k ring & I can't find one I like for under £400. However H2B found his for £135!
Don't forget your invites etc - although these are nominal
I know your mother-in-law is paying for dress, but don't forget shoes, veil & wedding jewellery
Only other thing I can think that you're missing is centerpieces.

You do have a really great budget, and everyone on here will tell you that weddings can cost as much or as little as you want. ours will be around the same, but with only 80 people! Other people will manage to do it all for £2k. For us, it was great to sit down and think about how much each element really meant to us, and what the difference would be if we went for the cheaper option etc.

Good luck & keep us updated with flower costs!!!
    Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93
    Crazy Clothes Challenge # 103 - £84/£200 £30 Coat/£12 shirt/£23 jeans/£6 t-shirt/£13 2 x tops
Shoes £79/£100: Cowboy boots, canvas pumps, re-heal boots/ £25 safari shoes
  • So you're not having a sit down meal? To be honest the cost of the reception will I think be paid for by our parents, and so they may insist on certain things (such as the meal and extra wine for people) as they may not want to be seen to be costcutting for their child's wedding, whereas obviously we are in a different position to them.

So while I am keen to keep the cost of the reception down, the 'extras' are more of a concern at the minute!

We are using the bridesmaid bouquet (all 6 of them) in bud vases on each of the tables (not top table though)so they are table decs as well. A large statement flower rather than a traditional bouquet can work out cheaper. Its an arum lily held like a baby so thin enough to go in a bud vase.

our lovely florist suggested it as i did mention our budget was meagre. She also suggested using button holes to dress the cake for photos. We have already got to many toppers for our cake so we don't need to do that.

Look on ebay occasionally you see people selling on chair covers they have used only once. They can work out about the same as hiring them and you get to sell them on after yourself if they are in good condition.

I am not being charged for my room hire etc either.

    Our flower prices are
    Table/altar piece £35
    My bouquet £54
    Adult bridesmaid bouquet £42
    Child artificial bouquet £14
    Buttonholes £6.95
We don't have a quote for the table flowers yet as the price is included in our venue costs and our florist is hoping to do those too.

We are getting married at 2.30 and are having canapes during the photos, a 3 course sit down meal and an evening buffet. Our costs for the food etc maybe high but we are getting what we want.

Drinks package £28.95 each includes champagne reception drink and canapes, 2 glasses of wine with the meal, glass of wine for toasts. Flowers on the tables, menu printing/table plan printing and the honeymoon suite for us that night are included in this price.
We have budgetted around £40 per head for the sit down meal and a maximum of £20 for the evening food each.
