The ones I have opened in the past have mostly wanted a cheque for the opening amount. I think they like to see all the details of your current account in print. Considering that cheques are being phased out I expect the banks will have to come up with a different method.
I wanted to deposit money by debit card into a new ISA today, after jumping through hoops to become an on line customer, but after exchanging words on line with an assistant I was told I would have to go to a branch to do that. They don't make it easy!
You will have to wade through the on line lists of best ISA providers to see if anyone does allow an initial deposit by bank transfer. Sites like Moneysupermarket. The easiest one would be your own bank but I assume their ISA rate is poor.
Google for Best ISA rates and you may find what you are looking for.0 -
ING and Halifax both 3%. ING especially have gr8 CS0

The Santander Flexible ISA doesn't actually require a cheque, by the way. You have to select that during the application, but once it's been accepted and the account's opened, you can fund it via BACS as one might expect.
It's just a misleading application form rather than bad rules.0 -
Nationwide eIsa - 3.1% - transfers in allowed and its variable rate.
Need flexaccount with them - that could be opened online.0
