Child savings

I am new to this site and would like to find out what will be the best savings or bonds for my new baby boy.

would it be savings or bonds?

    If you are prepared to take some risk for a better return over the long term then share based investments may be a good idea for 18 year investment spans.

    Just avoid any Friendly Society "tax free savings" bonds which are appallingly expensive, poor value and highly inflexible.
    Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
