Selling Old DVD's on Ebay

Hi, i'm new to this posting, been reading here for a wile and well decided to sell some stuff on ebay,

I recently thought of selling my dvd's as a job lot but on got offered £270 for 360 of them and well as this is less than £1 each i decided not to sell at that price and i would sell individually.

So far i have managed to sell 62 dvds inc boxsets,

I have looked at cost of postage and bought 300 jiffy bags this costs about 8.5p a bag, postage should be 58p second class up to 100g and 92p for up to 250g, but at my local post office they seem to charge me over this. i even got charged £2.50 for sending a box set that should of cost me £1.72?,

Im not the sort of person who querrys these things but anoying as i can only get £1 for postage off ebay,

I have been selling my dvds for atlease 99p + £1 postage,
Typical DVD weighs 100g cost of postage 58p
Jiffy bag 8.5p
so £1.99 - 66.5p = £1.32 before ebay and paypal fees,
but some times im spending more on postage at my local shop.

What would be best just accepting these charges or buying loads of stamps and sending at the value Royal Mail set out on the price guide lines? i have scales so i know exactly what i should be charges also i have the size guide to check the size is less than 25mm.
only problem is what if im doing something wrong and post and the buyer gets a letter saying they have to pay £1 extra?

Please advise
Thanks
John

If your item goes through the correct slot at PO and weighs correctly then stand and argue with them. Post Office staff do not cheat us, they may make an innocent error due to not understanding the rules, but if you point out their error they are unlikely to argue.

  • Thanks, im just not that good at point out these things as im scared of confrontation, the ladie already moaned at me when i was posting 10 items and asked for a certificate of posting for each item so i could claim if any didnt arrive at the buyers address.

Ask them for a book of the old style certificate of posting forms then you can fill the addresses in (there's room for 4 or 5 on each form) before you go to the post office and all the counter staff have to do is stamp the form for you.
  • Ahhh that's a good point actually I may well do that and then speak to them about why they are charging me differen stated to what is on their billing chart :-)

    Thanks

sounds like theyre charging you for packets rather than large envelopes. Most post offices have a plastic slot you can test the size - check them out to make sure they fit. if not you may need to rethink your packaging. Amazon now send dvds in cardboard envelopes - I dont know if its possible to buy something similar to these.

I use card envelopes as suggested by PudseyDB above, got them from a supplier on Ebay. there are also sellers of purpose made small boxes called PIP (post in proportion) that are made to fit a DVD or CD or thin paperback book through the 25mm slot. Have a look around, most sell samples so you don't have to buy large amounts right away.

if they no longer have the pads at the post office, there's printable versions instead - downloadable as pdfs

(found the link over at amazon's seller boards)
Used one today (well yesterday now) with no problem.

Maybe after checking which ones go through the large letter slot you could ask for ther service you want as you hand each parcel over - "large letter first class please", " packet second class", etc.
