MotoGP Silverstone 2011 camping June 10-12

Dear MSE colleagues..
I am a born again biker (50s), currently own a 2006 Triumph Daytona 955i. I have watched MotoGP on TV for many years, but for 2011, along with 3 buddies, have decided to attend this year’s MotoGP at Silverstone. We live 160 miles away from the circuit. As local hotel accommodation charges seem to double during the 3 day meet, camping seems to be the optimum choice, probably Friday & Saturday night 10th & 11th June. We have a couple of tents, 2&3 berth, and plan to travel to site in a car. My research on the web suggests that if done properly, a party atmosphere experience can be had for the event. I have looked at several campsite options, and feedback varies from good to bad. but I was hoping to learn from the experiences and recommendations of fellow MSE biking enthusiasts who have been down this road and know the best way to do this at reasonable cost whilst avoiding any big pitfalls. Many thanks.

    Debt-free and Proud!
I went to the F1 gp last year, we had the official silverstone camping, in the quiet area, but it was fine. In my opinion lively just meant a lot of generators!
    Had a wicked time.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

We did the F1 weekend the last 2 years and are returning this year. We use Whittlebury Park campsite - fantastic atmosphere, beer tent and bands playing Friday and Saturday night, shower blocks, shop on site and has a direct path to the circuit.

Things may be different for the MotoGP in terms of entertainment but looking at other campsites during the F1 GP and after talking to others who have been elsewhere we will be returning every year.

I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time wherever you end up - enjoy!!

Whittlebury is great and close enough to walk into the track. Like all campsites though, you are at the mercy of your next door neighbours.

We went to Silverstone Motogp last year, camped in the circuit campsite, so it took about 10 mins to walk into the circuit.
Inside the campsite there were bands playing on Sat night, the football was on a big screen etc (England were playing I think), also food and drink available, there was also a small shop on site.
There is also entertainment laid on inside the circuit site at various times, stunt bike shows, bands etc. On Sat after qualifying the riders come up on the stage and they interview them (not all of them!)

Also there are other races on, so you don't just get motogp practice sessions fri & sat, qualifying saturday, 125/moto2/gp race on sunday, but also various other races like the red bull rookies or last year there was a superbike race.

The downside was the toilets and showers - there were nowhere near enough of them but I understand they have built proper ones for this year.
