House with only skydish and no aerial. Freesat??

Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone could help me please.

I have moved into a new property today and the aerial connection I thought was a normal aerial socket is actually as Sky connection with a dish outside.

My brother has kindly given me an old Skybox but no viewing card.

If I plug it in can I watch it with all the channels or do I need a viewing card to get this freesat?

If I do need a viewing card what is the best and cheapest way to go about this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you:T

I have a sat receiver with no card slot at all, but can receive literally hundreds of channels, can't understand a lot of 'em though:rotfl:

Most of the main channels are there, plug it in (maybe re-tune) and see . . :j
  • Without the viewing card, the only difference from the FreesatFromSky channels (if I remember corrrectly) is that you won't get Sky3, 5* and 5USA. Channel 5 may not appear in the programme guide, but you can add this in manually if you want.

The card does regionalise your box, so without it, you'll have BBC 1 London on 101 and ITV Central (I think) on 103.

Or get a Freesat PVR if you want to get the record/playback functions as well.

    Thanks for all your replies.

Have found a power lead for it that fits it (I forgot to mention that is why I hadn't tried just switching it on yesterday) and switched it on.
    We have channels :)
I haven't sat down properly to look which ones yet was just pleased I didn't have to pay out anything to even get a channel.

Thank you for all the helpful advice
