Minister on BBC News this morning

Watching the BBC’s soft interview of the health minister this morning showed just why everyone is tarred with the same brush. The actions of the few have consequences for the many! He made it sound so smooth. Those capable of doing some work should do so. We have to get the work shy off benefit. So, what work can most do? If you are a hazard to others in the work place, or to yourself, health and safety negates your ability to work.

I cannot work due to meds, walking ability, dopiness (through meds) and falling. He said that the DWP is only asking claimants to do some work, or any, not necessarily their preferred work. Just what are your options?

What was missing was the stark reality of wanting/being judged able to work and an employer touching you. They would be in fear of Tribunals for unfair dismissal etc that would undoubtedly arise from all the sackings through time off, being unfit for work, lateness, slow at the job, unable to carry out duties and the costs involved once the employer realises the employee is disabled and has needs that will cost money. Before anyone jumps up about good employers, DDA and the law, the amount of bad employers far outweigh the good ones.

I know what you mean, my husband is totally at the mercy of his meds. He's on injections of Methotrexate and Enbrel which cause all kinds of problems, the worse of which are the awful fatigue and nausea. The poor guy can't get out of bed without help and that's even if his pain is under control.

People , including family, ask why he takes the meds if that is how they make him feel so we then explain that when he did stop them once three of his toes bent like claws in less than six weeks so he had to go straight back on them again.

I know they say it these new rules won't affect the genuine claimants but we're already seeing the amount of people going to appeals etc.

It feels like we are losing the hard earned rights that people had fought so hard for in the first place. This is not going to be a good time to be disabled.

You can work and claim DLA,so if people were fit for work then they would do so as it would increase there income.I too am on Morphine etc,23 pills daily and live on the moon,so god help any future employer of mine if i get my DLA cut.

He and the item was about ESA, not DLA, but I suppose as we are all hearing, lose one and the other gets looked at straight away.

Don't worry, there are not enough jobs available for able bodied people, and you won't be forced into work, the main reason for the shake up is to cut benefits, your real concern is staying on JSA when they put you on it, as many of you will be new to JSA it goes like this:

They will force you to look for work, and apply for work, but the chances of you getting work are very very slim, there is every chance you will get referred for sanctions if you fail to look for work or fail to attend interviews or fail to attend jobcentre interviews at a certain time, thats where the Govt saves even more money, if they sanction your benefits you can apply for hardship payments of around £30 per week, but this has to feed you, pay your gas, elec, water, rent, and all other expenses associated with living, i know its harsh, nowhere near enough and its awful when you think a MP can claim up to £100 per week just for food.

I have been looking for work for years, it is not available - govt says your fit for work ask them where the job they have in mind for you is, you won't get a response.
    Owed out = lots.

I'm on methotrexate injections, adalimumab injections and tramadol. My days are spent either sleeping, feeling sick or being on cloud nine - I wonder what type of job I could do?:rotfl:

Perhaps you need a medication review. My husband is on very similar medication although infliximab rather than adalimumab. The end result is his RA is fairly well controlled only needing occasional steroid infusions or direct to joint injections. Certainly he has none of the side effects you describe.
