VT'ing car with known problem.
I am returning my car to Black Horse next weekend, as I have reached the half way point in my Hire Purchase agreement.
However, I have just discovered the early stages of a serious mechanical fault.
What are peoples experiences of returning vehicles with known faults?
It is at the early stages, but could potentially be a very expensive repair.
I think it is possibly still in a good enough condition to return to the finance company without telling them (dishonest I know), however I don't want it to come along and bite me in the behind.
Any non judgemental advice?

Hello, what is the fault with the car?0
-
Imminent head gasket failure.
A further question - where do I stand with a car that potentially needs £££s worth of repairs that Im wanting to VT?
Would the finance company give any leeway in any respect?0 -
I suppose you could try and hide it. Would they check and see mayo on the oil cap if that is how it is showing itself? Gasket failure often shows itself with coolant loss but only a run in the car would show this along with temperature gauge rise.0

Its quite visually evident and quite far along at this stage.
Haven't noticed it as haven't been driving it due to medical issues.
The gripe I have is my bill will come to several hundred for a car Im trying to hand back next weekend!
Any suggestions as to how to approach the finance company with this?
Not entirely sure I want to hide it - would rather come to some sort of agreement.0 -
When you return the car will they ask you any questions?
If they don't ask you don't have to tell.
If you are asked quetions you have to reply honestly - if someone asked me anything about the mechanics of my car I could honetly say I know absolutely nothing!0 -
In the VT pack it stipulates the car has to be mechanically sound.
They also do a quick check, unfortunately with my make of car the visual checks usually focus on one particular area, and from that it is pretty evident mine has a problem.
Think Im going to have to call them on monday and try to renegotiate the terms of the agreement.
I did see something on here somewhere, although I cant find it now, about doing this?0 -
Is it a Rover? they used to eat head gaskets :rotfl:"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0
