Lost Cheque
Good evening, I was hoping for a little advice.
Last October (2010) I was issued with a tax rebate, I dont have a bank account so I used the moneyshop to cash the cheque, all well and good I thought.
Until yesterday, when I received a letter from the moneyshop saying the cheque had failed to clear and I had to pay them the original face value of the cheque and a £25 admin fee.
I got straight on the phone to them, and was told it didnt clear because the bank they use to clear cheques had lost it.
I also called HM Customs to see if the cheque had infact cleared, but they will take 4-6 weeks to find out - if not they will reissue it to me.
What I want to know is, where do I stand with this, Am I liable for a cheque they lost and failed to clear 6 months ago and can they charge me an admin fee for their mistake.
Thanks for any info.
Dave

The bank they use lost the cheque and they (the shop) are going to charge you for it, tell them to do one..................cheeky sods.
Tell them yu have acontacted the HMRC regarding the cheque and they just have to waitmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It will be in the terms and condition of the cheque cashing shop - if a cheque does not clear FOR ANY REASON - OP will be responsible for the costs.
I would think he could ask them for leniency as for the charge but he will have to pay back any monies received - this is the chance he took when he used the service - so the answer above is incorrect I'm afraid.0
