Hi all,

I'm slightly worried about an eBay seller.

I won an auction for a mobile, sent over the paypal payment and got a message to say the seller was waiting for the payment to "clear".

Knowing that ebay withhold the money sometimes, I asked what was up and checked my paypal account.

The payment had gone to an unregistered email account.

The seller contacted me to say their ebay account had an old email address linked to it. So I canceled the first payment.

Now the seller is asking for my email address, so they can send a paypal invoice.

I'm unsure now as surely this is moving the transaction from the eBay safety net?

The seller appears to be English and there is no sign of a hijacked account but I'm a little worried.

Ebay forum gives two different answers. Paypal advise to pay the new address!

The seller was understanding, I explained the issue and they agreed to cancel the sale.

I now think it was an honest mistake but as the wife said "it's not a fiver".

You can add the ebay item number when you pay on paypal to ensure that the payment is linked to the item. It would have been safe.
