"left at secure location"

I recently had an ebay item delivered where the tracking said "left at secure location". The "secure location" was a bin bag next to the bin! :rotfl:
Luckily it was the wrong day for the bin men but if they had taken it away, would I have had any grounds for complaining to the courier?

Yes and I suggest you do as well as complain to the sender. I once had a parcel left inside my recycling bin at 9.35 am according to the card.
I arrived home from work at 8pm, I would have been very miffed if it had been bin collection day!!!
DH is a manager for a courier company and they can leave in a secure location or with a neighbour if the sender instructs them.
They define a secure location as inside a porch where the parcel can't be seen from the pavement for example and also take a photo of the front door if no one is in to sign for it to prove attempted delivery and a photo of where it was left, in case the receiver says they didn't get it.0 -
My house is end terraced & has a door from the pavement onto my side path with a panel above, making it almost 10 feet high.
Last year my new cooker was delivered with a damaged enamel top, the bit that screws onto the top for the hob. Belling sent out a new one. It had Fragile tape around the box. But didn't require a signature.
The FedEx courier lobbed it over the door, so instead of 1 damaged corner, the new cooker top had 3 crumpled corners.
I jumped up & down a lot & spoke to the Manager of our local Fedex who called me to say when the replacement was being delivered so that I could be in & it was delivered by a different driver.
I asked the second driver if he would have thrown the parcel over the door & he said, he would have climbed over & left it. Maybe he was a frustrated Milk Tray Man.
I'm hoping that I never have FedEx deliver anything else to me.0
