Selling Problem I've Not Come Across Before

Well, I've just had a few items finish and was just looking to see how they did and one of the items has been won by someone outside of the UK.
However, I set the sale to UK only and only put a postage rate for this. So, i have no idea what to do. If I change the postage rate on the invoice, won't the buyer complain? and if I don't change it, I'll be losing out!
I don't want to lose my 100% feedback as I'm only a small scale bits & bobs seller!

Any advice will be appreciated :)

OK, too late ... they've already paid.

How is this fair? I've re-checked and my listing was definitely UK only

Just tell the buyer that the postage quoted was for UK only and that they would have to pay extra or you will have to cancel the sale. You may or may not get bad feed back but best to be polite.

You can refund the money already paid.

    Was it shoes?
  • if the buyer is within Europe and the value of the item is under £41 the postage will be very similar OR MAYBE CHEAPER than within the UK

OK, reweigh the item with packaging, get the postage cost. Then email the buyer explain they only paid the uK rate and that the rate to their country will be X and that you will therefore refund their initial payment and issue a new invoice.

Then recheck your seller preferences , it sounds like you haven;t actually blocked bidders from countries you don't ship to.

    Thank you for the advice.

It's just a small paperback book which sold for 50p which is why I was worried about the cost of postage because it's such a cheap item.

Based on what you've said, I'll take the item with me to the post office tomorrow and ask for a price (I'm going to drop off another item anyway). The sale is within EU so hopefully if the postage isn't too different it will work out ok :)

Thank you, I just had an utter panic "what do I do" moment because I had no idea it could happen. Will definitely check my preferences now!

Your listing may say UK only, but a lot of people don't read the listings properly.
It's in your preferences where you can make sure you exclude counties you don't post to.
