Should the minimum wage be acceptable for people over 50 who have other income?

My sister is 61 and has taken her old age pension at 60. She would like another job (she had to retire at 60 from her last one) but finds that some employers expect her to accept the minimum wage because she already has her pension. This applied to jobs where she would have to take responsibilty for large sums of money as well as other ones like serving in a tearoom.

I think the employers shoud pay the rate for the job, whoever they pay it to, and whatever income the person has.
Maybe they only intend to pay the minimum wage to anyone?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Now, of course, it would be age discrimination if they intended to pay one rate to older people and another to younger people. It should be 'the rate for the job' regardless of age.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I agree with all the above - it could be that the OP has been in a job for a number of years and had an hourly rate way above the minimum wage - if she wants to keep this then do not apply for minimum wage jobs - employers who pay the minimum wage will do so - age will not be a consideration.I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0
