Newly seperated Mumof4

Hey everyone,

I hope someone can offer information, ive checked the entitledto site but its not very specific for my situation :(

Ok so ive seperated from my husband of 10 years and im raising my 4 children alone, 3 of them are ours together and my eldest is from a previous relationship.
I currently claim disability allowance for my daughter (middle rate care), carers allowance, and child benefit. I also get CSA payments of £13 per fortnight for dd1.

I applied for Income support today and have a work focused interview arranged for Monday morning but the benefits lady wasnt sure whether I will get IS or CTC or both :s

My ex is still under our roof and im hoping to move out with our children asap.
Does anybody know what I may be entitled to with IS and/or CTC?
Also what should I expect at the interview?
My children are 12, 9, 3 and 2. 3yo goes to nursery 5x mornings a week and 2yo has 2 sessions at pre school that I pay for (on advice of my cbt councellor) so 2.5 hours on a tues and thurs.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help :)

Oh also, the interview- I asked if it was ok to bring my son along and the lady said it would be best not to but I have noone I can ask to babysit

You will get CTC and a Income support premium because you get Carers allowance.
    *SIGH*

With the income support are you sure as they are still living together. I was under the impression that if you still lived together then it was near on impossible to prove that you were apart and just living together. I may be wrong but wanted to clarify.

You will get child tax credit but again under the same roof I'm not sure if it would have to remain as a joint claim until you move out.

  • Thanks guys

Aaronsmummy- oh god don't say that! Hubby is absolutely useless with money to the point that its half the reason we're splitting. The lady from the IS section didnt say anything about it being a problem although I can see where youre coming from

Im going to view a house on Tuesday so hopefully even if it is a problem it wont be one for long.
Dont suppose anyone has any idea how much the benefits will amount to?

    Much thanks

It depends on the rent of the house etc.
You will need to pay your deposit and first months rent before you sign the tenancy agreement and apply for housing benefits

If entitled to Income Support you may get a top up of £41.60 based on this years rates (going up a little in April)

Have you cancelled your joint claim of tax credits and started a new claim as a single parent ?

For the next two weeks will probably remain the same due to joint income but from April it should be assessed with your only income being Carers Allowance entitling you to the maximum amount with an additional premium for your disabled child, on today's rates this could be up to £240 per week on this years rates with a rise in April of approximately £6 per child.

Not sure what LHA (housing benefit) rate you would be entitled to but would expect at least 3 bedrooms, visit your local council website for information on this.

If you require assistance with deposits you may be able to apply for an interest free crisis loan through the Jobcentre, ask at the interview you're having.

Have you thought about child maintenance.........
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

Many thanks though, at least I know theres definitely an entitlement somewhere. Just got to wait now.... I spoke to the ctc office yesterday but they wont discuss anything with me until I attend some interview to prove my id.
