Just cancelled my SKy Tv package.
Offerred £10.25 to use sky hd box and record from it .
I can't find any info on this on their site.
Anyone have any links?
Does this mean I keep the box and can still get all free to air channels(e.eg bbc hd/4HD) AND record from them?
Is this contract free i.e. only paying every month?
Had been thinking of getting an HDPVR but if this offer works then might be worth taking it until freeview HDpvrs come down in price?
Thanks in advance

you can keep your box and get the free channels anyway, it depends how much you want to have the record facility.
you can pick up a recording box from places like ebuyer for a relatively low costGetting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

Thanks for that Tupper. Do you know if the hd channes (eg bbc/4/ITV)
are able to be viewed/recorded on the sky box?
Looking into HDpvrs but at moment looking like paying £140-250,might leave them til they come down in price.

If you paid sky £10.25 a month for usage of their HD box (recording facility) for a year that would be £123 spent renting a sky box for the sake of paying £140 to buy a box
Consider how much the prices would have to fall for you to actually save money by renting the box!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
if you have a HD box, but don't pay anything, you will be able to see the 'free' HD channels, such as BBC, but you won't be able to recordGetting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

that's weird.Sky lady told me I would have me free to air hd channels and be able to record them.
Can't for the life of me find the info on the Sky site.0 -
if you pay them for the skyplus subscription you will be able to record, if you don't pay, you can still watch, but not record.Getting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

If you're crafty and patient you can remove the Sky card from the box before cancelling, leave it out the box for a couple of months and 'often' the card continues to allow the record/play features work on the free to air channels. It's not guaranteed of course but I've had a couple of cards taken out of service (left in a box in the loft for several months) and they work when later used... I imagine that Sky send out some 'stun the card' signals after you cancel but stop sending out these signals after a while....

According to the Sky woman I can record.I think this is what she is referring to:
"Sky+ functionality requires a Sky+ subscription (free for Sky TV customers or £10pm) and two satellite feeds."0 -

What you pay renting will be a waste.
Good quality HD recorders will not come down enough in price to make you a saving. In 6 months you've spent £60, but they won't be £60 cheaper, in 12 months you've spent £120 etc.......
Just buy one now and cancel.0
