Any grants for homeowner

Im looking for any help as all information previously been given is not relevant to me. I posted on the benefits thread someone suggested trying on here incase any one had any idea
Im 23, I have a child who is in receipt of DLA Care low (which has been a battle since Nov and only just come through).
I work full time my income is less than £17k. I am due to go on maternity leave in one month. My partner doesnt work and receives no income or benefit. I am currently paying a mortgage, can not extend already have it over 38 years
I currently receive child tax credits and working tax credit. Im not eligible for sure start money or health in pregnancy grant
The problem I have is that my shower is leaking through the wall into the next bedroom and accross the floor which would be my childs room, and through the floor boards and leaking out of the ceiling in the kitchen which means the lighting in kitchen doesnt work and everytime you have a shower it causes more damage.
My daughter has severe excema and has to shower 2-3 times a day so you can see where the problem lies.
I have no family I can rely on and I cant seem to find help. I physically do not have the money to get this problem fixed. I know if left the ceiling will fall through.
Does any one know of any grants I could be entitled to ? Any help or guidence would be appreciated
I come under Bolton Council
Any questions please just ask me

There is no help available as you already know from your other thread, even support for the most seriously disabled people has been stopped/reduced to next to nothing due to the spending cuts and home maintanace for none disabled parents has never been funded as far as I understand.
You have over strached your finances and that has nothing to do with having a child on low rate care, use the DLA money and/or the child tax credits (including the extra that you get because your daughter gets DLA) to sort out the leak which will now cost much more because you have continued to use the shower while knowing that there was a problem.
If you had reported the leak as soon as it happend you could have claimed on the insurance, you say they wouldnt cover it but you dont know that because you didnt ask, I have home insurance with all the bangs and whistles because its so important to me because I know that I cant do anything like that myself so the extra cost per year is worth it to me.0 -
I only posted on this thread as adviced on the other.
The ctc and cb pays for food. My wage pays the bills.
the dla yes it is being saved as Ive only started getting it this week I dont think £18 will go very far
Sorry for asking for help !!!!!! Like I said I posted on here cos it was suggested to do so in case anyone knew of anything else0 -
I'm afraid you have to save up for the repairs yourself. Try looking around some of the boards on here and see how you can cut back your spending for a while and save, save, save.
Our house is in desperate need of repointing, we can't get the insulating thingy done until it has been repointed. I can't afford to have it done yet, so am saving up the money for when I can.
Without sounding harsh, and I truly don't mean to.. you work to pay your bills, raise your family and make essential repairs on your home. You can't really expect your local council to fund your home repairs.
Could you do some overtime? Or your partner get some work for a few weeks? And use the money you get for repairs.0 -
Im already doing over time I work 37 hours a week. Im 33weeks pregnant. The only offer overtime once in a blue moon but they had it last weekend and this weekend and I have and will be working the full 9 hours each day.
My partner cant look for work until Im off, as our daughter needs constant care.
I appreciate your comments and understand your not causing offense.
I work in housing benefits and cant believe the loopholes and stuff that your average person doesnt know and so I enquired to find out IF and only IF there was any funding available
I didnt think there was. But if you dont ask ,you dont know ,let alone get it
but thank you for taking the time to reply0 -
Ah well.. in a few weeks you should be on maternity leave, right? You'll be home to watch your daughter, and your partner can work then maybe? Even some temping work could help.
I know you'll be exhausted, I remember those last few weeks of being pregnant, but it's manageable (depending on the level of care your dd needs)
I must say, I *hate* this part of being a grown up! Once you have a home, it's not fair that things break in it, lol.0 -

Can your oh get a job working evenings & weekends as that's what I had to do as I looked after our kids whilst my husband was at work.
It would probably be working in retail like Homebase etc but the money really would help in your situation as it did ours.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

currently its not an option. Our daughter barely sleeps within 24 hour period, and with me working my partner is being a zombie and staying up in the night with her as well so that I can function at work
She is having treatment to try and help this but so far nothing is working. Didnt want you to think we were doing nothing
Trying to stay positive. He's not work shy, just not an option till baby born
Thanks though0 -
Wanted to add I hate this part of being a grown up too0

I found myself a single mum when DS1 was 8 months old, working full time, and within a few months I had learnt to do quite a few things I'd never tried before. I admit I always was quite practical, a dab hand at decorating etc, but I'd never had to change a washer or anything like that. Before I left that house (DS1 was just about to start school) I'd learned the fundamentals of plumbing and wiring and am now frustrated at having to 'get someone in' because I'm physically unable to use the skills I have.
You have a lot on your plate, everyone can understand that, but these things are not rocket science. Shower trays and tools can often be found on freecycle/freegle etc. DIY books from the library. It is amazing what you can learn to do when needs must and I'm sorry but it sounds as if that is your best route.
And don't be too proud to ask for help. People love to show off how much they know and that's how I learned most of my skills. Have a chat with your mates and ask them to come round for a beer and problem solving session.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Hi go to turn2us and you may find a charity willing to help. Also look at the disabled facilities grant as your daughter gets dla you may get it for her. As she is under nineteen your not means tested which means you should not have to find the money towards the adaptions.0
