Argos Help!!

I purchased an xbox under 28 days ago for £89.99, just checked and it's now reduced to £49.99. Have I got the right to ask for the difference?
Help appreciated;)

  • return it with your receipt and then buy it again
  • You don't have any legal right to ask for a refund of the difference, and I doubt you'll be able to return it, as it will be outside the 16 day returns policy offered by Argos. Again, in law, you have no legal right to return it because you have changed your mind, at any time, even immediately after purchase, unless the store specifically offer this policy.
  • If it wasnt opened and played with you might be able to return it saying it was a xmas present but you have just found out the "nephew" already had it and would you be able to get argos vouchers in it's place as you would buy him games if he already had the console but being a none techie you don't know what he'd like so he can choose them himself later.

If they think the moneys staying in the store they are probably more willing to give your the vouchers than the cash, so just use the vouchers to buy it if they do refund the amount to you.

The xbox is exempt from the 16 day return policy in any event so it makes no difference what you say, you can only return it if it is faulty unless you get a member of staff who doesn't know what they are doing.

    Thanks for your replys:o
I gave my local store a ring and they said there was nothing they could do and even if it was faulty I wouldn't get a refund or exchange. It would have to be sent off for repair!

Joe, we don't give a **** about your employer Argos, in case you hadn't noticed.

If Argos had consistent returns policies and put the customer first we wouldn't need to do such things.

I suppose you've never driven over the speed limit or dropped a fag end or a piece of chewing gum or an apple core or used your phone whilst driving or eaten whilst driving??? All illegal.

You'll be telling us next that it's reasonable for them to only sell you one mobile phone at a time!!

LOOK OVER THERE, IT SAYS 'CONSUMER REVENGE'

It is down to the consumer to ensure that the profits of Argos and other retailers are as low as possible, to keep them keen and stop their shareholders from getting Fat!

No, I have never done any of those things. And I hardly see your point. The reason shops have these policies is because people like you try to commit fraud against them. If all our customers were decent and honest there woudln't be any problems.

It is literally impossible for a company that employs as many people as Argos and has so many ccustomers to serve every one in exactly the same manner - andif you try to control your rage a bit you would see that for the majority of customers we bend over backwards to be helpful, I could give you hundreds of examples.

If you hate Argos so much why don't you use small indepenent local shops so Argos doesn't get any of your money at all.

Oh and I know it says consumer revenge at the side - but it says in MANY more places that what you are suggesting is illegal and is not condoned and certainly not encouraged by the site as you are implying - if you think otherwise why don't you give your suggestion to one of the site staff.

NO, IT'S SO THEIR FAT CAT DIRECTORS GET FATTER - THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE A CHARGE CARD WITH ONE OF THE HIGHEST INTEREST RATES IN THE INDUSTRY AS WELL.

I GENERALLY AVOID ARGOS. THEIR PRICES ARE ON THE WHOLE UNCOMPETITIVE.

"what you are suggesting is illegal"

ARGOS ARE QUITE FAMILIAR WITH BREAKING THE LAW, SO THEY SHOULD BE QUITE USED TO IT:

Argos fined £17.28 million in 1999 for fixing the price of toys and games. <---LOOK, FIDDLING THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!
Argos were prosecuted for failing to declare sales of TVs to TVLicensing.<--- LOOK, FIDDLING LICENCE PAYERS!!!
Argos were prosecuted for Contravention of the Environmetal Protection Act in 2006.
Argos were prosecuted for breaching Product Safety Regulations. <---LOOK, ENDANGERING THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!

    QUITE LAW ABIDING, AREN'T THEY???
