Just a bit of a whinge and to see if anyone can help me think things though.
Till last summer, I didn't work so hols weren't a problem fitting in plus I started the week after our annual hol and only initially worked 2 days, now I work 4 and can't seem to fit everything in.
We go away as a family, me DH, DS (11) and DD (8) for a weeks hol each year, usually abroad. We also take my 87yo Grandmother on a seperate mini-break. Over the past few years this has changed from being abroad to being in the UK, from going mon-fri to fri-mon and from going to center Parcs to going to Butlins due to it getting a bit 'too much' for nan. She has limited walking ability nowadays but won't admit to it, so wheelchair hire for example is out as she'd refuse. Don't want to not go away cos it's the only break she has.
The AL we were going to use for a long weekend in summer with nan., now needs to be used for running my DS to a summer school for gifted children 25 miles away with no transport provided. Friends relatives will help out as much as they can. but we will still need to use some hols from work.
I did consider the Easter BH, till today when DD brought home a party invite for easter sat, at the most expensive play centre int own. Last year I booked there for DD and 5 people didn't turn up, most letting me down on the day and you are still charged. It's the only party invite dd has had all year and I'm aware that the birthday child has recently changed which parent she lives with and schools, so I feel a bit mean saying we can't go even if I do give plenty of notice. The royal weddding/mayday w'end which would also mean no AL used, has nothing available for Butlins skegness (closest to us). Whitsun BH is out due to hubbys work committments.
The more I think about it, I keep on coming up with 'well if we do x, y can't do z'. and going round in circles, so would appreciate someone elses perspective.

Why not go away Easter weekend, Good Friday through to Easter Monday? You don't mention any plans for that weekend, but it might be hard finding space at short notice.0

I thought she said there was a party invite for Easter Saturday which is bang in the middle of the Easter weekend?
OP hope you manage to sort something, it is hard trying to please and accomodate everyone.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Yes she said Easter Saturday, which is the Saturday after Easter. The day between Good Friday and Easter Day is Holy Saturday or Low Saturday.0 -

I'm afraid you understand wrong. Holy Saturday preceeds Easter Day, which itself begins the Octave of Easter, so Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday etc through to Easter Saturday and ending with Low Sunday.0 -
We may be wrong, but even some of your fellow Christians would refer to the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Monday as 'Easter Saturday'.
It's also the only way to make sense ofI did consider the Easter BH, till today when DD brought home a party invite for easter sat,
OK Spendless, since you can find a weekend - the Royal Wedding / early May BH - then you need to look at alternative venues to Butlins. Does it HAVE to be that kind of place? Would a cottage near an 'attraction' hit the spot? Go out one day, play board games another.
Just thinking aloud here ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
How about August bank holiday weekend. Would that work?"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0

Granny is 87, she understands all this, go away with her from Friday evening to Sunday evening, that way any weekend you fancy is available.
Go somewhere different than Butlins too - choose a B&B or a Travelodge, and go take in some culture / a show / something granny would enjoy, now the kids are bigger they can bear to be parted from a swimming pool / soft play area for a short break.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

At 87 perhaps Grandma would prefer a short theatre break for a day and overnight, with afternoon tea etc? I'm sur eyou can find a family show and it shortens the time to 'fit it in'."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of."
