TV - arial problem?

Hi

Have just bought sister a new samsung HD ready TV. Took it to her rented flat and when it went on to plug and play - auto select tune stations - it came up with signal too weak.

Although there is Freeview built in to the new TV, she had a digibox so we pluged a scart lead into it and the TV but still we can't get any channels (apart from 1).

She has an external arial socket and also an indoor arial but this didn't seem to work either. I would have expected TV plugged into external arial would give a good analogue signal - are we doing something wrong?

Thanks
Terri

Was the previous TV (if there was one) working OK with the external aerial? If not then suspect an aerial/co-ax cable fault.
The fact that the digibox gets nothing either would indicate that it isn't the TV that is at fault.
Most unlikely that you'll get any digital reception with a set-top aerial.
This assumes of course that you sister is in a area that can receive digital TV?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Did the digibox work previously with a TV using that aeriel?

Some sets will automatically tune both digital and analogue stations. On some you have to select analogue and then tune.

It is possible. My aunt used an indoor aeriel for her Freeview set and previous digibox and it worked fine in her kitchen although not in her bedroom only feet away.

Yes sister was using an indoor arial and digibox previously. Thanks everyone, it was loose wiring in a scart lead so thankfully not an expensive fix. :)

Scart wiring would not have any effect on tuning stations on TV so that's unlikely to be the cause of the problem as far as the TV is concerned.

no, the scart was in the back of the digi box and it had all loose wiring, we changed the scart lead now all fine. :)

Have you given up on receiving Freeview channels through your TV?

Are you not using the external aerial now?
