    You can't 'Just' keep it.....

I understand that if you ask motability towards the end of your lease (Call them), you can have the option to BUY the car off them, and you can buy it using their HP if that helps. As to if this will be cheaper, you will pay the market value, BUT you will only get your Road Fund Licence free, servicing, insurance, tyres etc etc will not be covered, so it's really depends on how much you drive, I'd expect that if you drive a lot it WON'T BE, but if you just drive a few thousand miles a year it might.....

Just ring them, it's not expensive 0845 456 4566, and they should be able to give you the EXACT info

  • sorry,to be more precise i mean carry on leasing it instead of starting another 3 year lease.
  • I don't believe that this is possible sadly, only options you have is to hand the car back and take a new car, purchase the car you have or hand car back and leave the scheme.

I think the problem is if you carried on the lease, you could in theory end up with a 6 year old car, with 120,000 miles on the clock. Not really a very good position to be in

I was told i could buy my car after my time was up, i have thought about it as i find the car i have is perfect for my needs, but then you need to think about what you loose, it's not a case of having everything paid for and just fill up the fuel..

You can't continue the lease after 3 years.

best to hand back and get another.

New system is if you have done less than 15k miles in the first 3 years you can re-lease for a further 2 years.

It is in the news bit of the Motability website.

"Customers who only drive a low number of miles can now keep their Motability cars for longer. This new customer benefit means anyone who has driven fewer than 15,000 miles within their three year lease can choose to keep their car for up to two additional years – great news for customers who enjoy their current car and are happy to put off the hassle of choosing a new one when their lease expires.

The low mileage means the car is less likely to experience the levels of wear and tear of most cars at the end of three years, so customers can be assured of reliable motoring for the extra one or two years. They will also now be eligible to receive an enhanced Good Condition Bonus amount depending on the length of the lease extension, when they return their car – a cash reward previously unavailable to customers who extended their lease.

At the end of the fourth or fifth year customers with a lease extension who wish to replace their existing Motability car with a brand new one, can simply make the usual plans to begin a new, worry-free lease with Motability."

Thanks for that, didn't know that, makes no difference for me though, i've done 15k in 9 months lol

Have a look at motability website. The easy way is to put the question 'buy car?' into the Ask Mo box. Check all the details but my summary is:

You must sort it out before the last week of the lease is up and you can't buy it with more than 14 weeks left.

Assuming you don't fall into the low mileage category as above, then you can ask for a quote for the purchase price based on the exact mileage of your car. the condition of the car is not taken into account.

For me they wanted 10K for a 3 year old VW Touran 1.9 diesel which is basically the Glasses Book Price.

I could either buy it outright or move to the Hire Purchase scheme, pay another upfront amount and give up the DLA money for another 3 years.

Yes they want 10 grand out of you to buy it, and if you decide you dont, then it go to auction and they end up with about 6 grand...!!..yet they wont sell it to you for a reasonable amount....theyve already had 3 years worth of money out of you..!!..thats one reason Im not keen on motabilty.....
