Is buyer protection the same on ebay.com as ebay.co.uk?

Hi,

Just out of interest, if I as a UK ebay buyer purchase an item from a UK ebay seller, but the item is listed on US based ebay.com and I pay with my Paypal account, will I receive exactly the same buyer protection as if the item was listed on ebay.co.uk?

I imagine buyer protection is the same worldwide, but since EU consumer laws obviously won't apply in the US, is there any tangible difference? :undecided

    As far as I know.

I somehow managed to use Ebay.com to buy from a UK based seller. There was a problem with the item and it was resolved. I think as a buyer you get the same level of protection if you pay by Paypal

There are some differences on the seller's part as to what is required of them. I'm not certain but I think PP insists on tracking even for items lower than £150, as in the US tracking is more common.
(this is from reading bits and bobs on various forums, maybe someone else will have first hand experience)

PS someone mentioned using a sniper which went through ebay.com although the item was listed in the UK by a UK seller, and ebay.com rules applied.

That;s the same as the UK as PP insist on tracking if you wish to be covered by seller protection. Paypal protection is exactly the same in the US for both seller and buyer.

You are right, the difference I spotted must be another one which I can't think of right now, will look for it.

    Many thanks for your replies.

I am having trouble with a less than helpful UK based seller. When I tried raising a case, I was directed to raise it via ebay.com rather than ebay.co.uk, because the item was listed there.

I wondered why someone selling realtively large but relatively low value items, which due to shipping costs are only economically viable only within the domestic UK market would be listing on the US site?

I wondered if there was some difference to buyer protection ... but it seems not, so maybe they're just unhelpful and clueless? :)
