4:3 picture on some HD channels.

Has anyone else had this and found a cure? I originally thought it was on programs made before widescreen but it happens on some HD channels with recent programs. When this is happening the equivalent SD channel fits the screen ok. Also the affected channels are ok whilst the adverts are showing.

These are programs that were, as you suggest, made in 4:3 but are stretched on the SD feed, the HD feed shows than as intended for best quality, The SD Simpsons is a good example.

If you don't like it you can always manually zoom your picture.
As above, HD is always transmitted in wide screen and does not support the switching of aspect ratio like the old scart based system worked.

I have noticed that Sky HD sometimes transmit old 4x3 programmes in wide screen, you can tel when a lot of heads get cut off.

What type of digibox are you using?

That's right. Installed Monday via free box, free install,6months free HD making HD effectively half price for 12months, and about all it's worth in my opinion.(ought to add here that the TV is a Sony KDL40W5810 and hadn't seen any of the above problem on HD from Freesat so I suspected the new box at first) Also not keen on the new EPG.

You can disable the mini TV and see more of the channel listings.

I like the fact that the current programme can still be heard/viewed whilst browsing other channels, have you got anytime+ up and running?

I've already disabled the mini TV and have never bothered with anytime since a week or two after we had sky+ and wouldn't know the benefits of anytime+.:embarasse

Just found out that you need to have Sky BB to use anytime+ and I don't have that.
