Hope u find somewhere before your baby arrives.
I hadn't looked at Essex, I was looking further north, thinking the further north the cheaper housing is. I'll do some phoning round Essex tomorrow and in the meantime check out the link. Thanks
Sorry if I was sounding increasingly narky, I'm getting more frustrated as each day goes by and more and more tired as each day progresses

I know, so you'd think the landlady would snap me up! It's not like she has a queue of people waiting to view it! If you read back there was only one other viewing apart from mine and they offered below the monthly asking price too and were rejected. It's definitely overpriced and the landlady is willing to drop down but not so far as to bring it under the LHA limit
Maybe people do know more about the area than I do, however I need a place to live and I realise that people on LHA are beggars and can't be choosers, it might not be the best of areas but as it is just half a mile down the road I know it isn't the worst of areas either.
She might get what she is asking for it, but with only one other viewing in the past three weeks apart from mine it's hardly popular and she might realise in a fortnight that dropping the rent is better than an empty house bringing no income at all and I might get a nice surprise phonecall, who knows. In the meantime I shall keep on looking

Am not going to say it was easy living in a HA home but you have to think long term. If you rent privately, unless you have a career you can return to, then by yourself, as a single mum you won't be able to afford to go back to work. You could end up having to move every couple of years and end up with nothing.
At least if you slum it for a bit and live in a council house you will be able to work and afford the rent as your kids get older. It's not all bad. I still keep in contact with a few people who live down the road i used to. I have to say though, i never used to let my kids go and play in the street. The house was adequate and it had a garden.
Sometimes i do actually miss the camaraderie that existed there. It was almost like we were all in the same boat so sort of looked out for each other. Now i live in one of the most desirable roads in my town yet i only speak to my neighbors either side of me and that is only when i see them occasionally.
If there is the slightest chance that you can get yourself affordable housing think long and hard before giving it up because your choices are limited if you can't afford to pay private rent yourself.0 -
Why is a 3 bed required, I wouild have thought LHA would only pay for a two bed with one adult and two young children. This may be the problem.0

Thanks there is so much there to consider and you're right, affordable housing means so much right now and would make it easier for me to go back to work once I can which is what I want. I don't want to have to stay on benefits or lose my home as I am unable to pay the rent. I don't know what social housing is like, but I don't really care, just want somewhere stable and secure0 -

Because my daughter is ten and I am having a boy so we have been told we are eligible and to look for a three bed as children of opposite sexes are not allowed to share a room once the oldest is over ten0 -

Then you have been told wrong. There is no legal age limit to opposite sex (or even same sex) siblings sharing. If you were to rent a (cheaper - more affordable) 2 bed house, no-one will evict you for having the kids sharing. But you would still qualify for the 3 bed rate of LHA.0
