Advice re Paypal and collection

I was contacted yesterday by someone wanting to purchase an item I had ending this morning, they wanted to bid but but couldn't, because I had my settings set at only bidders with Paypal can bid. Against my better judgement I agreed to alter it so she could bid (new buyer registered yesterday). We all have to start somewhere, I checked the address she had given and it was local, so thought it would be ok.

I told her it was collection only anyway and would prefer payment on collection and after she had seen it working.

Anyway she won the auction and low and behold has now paid with Paypal. I have messaged her offering to refund and she can pay when she has seen the item.

Not sure what else to do now. Do I insist on cash or just accept she as paid through Paypal, I don't want her starting a claim in a weeks time for non receipt. Not saying she will but who knows these days.

I would send her paypal payment back.

    Advise her cash on collection.

Thank you, I have done and the buyer is happy. I just didn't want to loose my item and money, it went for a lot more than I was expecting.

If paypal always insist on seeing proof of postage can you not just get a buyer to sign a collection invoice and use this as proof?

    No

OP you were lucky as a seller cannot refuse paypal even on a colelcted item and if you had refunded th epaypal and buyer refused to collect you would be stuck with having no way at all of getting payment or reclaiming your fees.

If you sell collection only you must be prpeared to take the risk.

Numerous messages passed back and forth yesterday and it was the buyer who wanted to pay cash because she did not have paypal. I explained that I would prefer cash because it is a very large item and difficult to post. She agreed. Low and behold she has paypal this morning.

I'm glad she agreed to cancel the payment and pay cash, I did wait 'till she agreed before refunding. I read so many stories on here about cash on collection and not being covered, it can scare the pants off you sometimes.
