Wanting to get away

Hey everyone,

I want to get away for a bit soon with my mum and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I would like it to only be about an hour away from London as we don't want to do much travelling and somewhere that is different and relaxing but also fun with alot of shops. :j

How about Portsmouth? (Yeah - I know it's 1.40hr on the train!)

Train Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour (get megatrain tickets), stay in the Holiday Inn Express (or similar), shop at Gunwharf Quays, visit the Historic Dockyard, day trip to Isle of Wight? http://www.visitportsmouth.co.uk/

I am a fan of Oxford for a wander & a little shopping depends where in london are you travelling from as it can take a hour to get through London before you start
