Buyer tried to open an INR case

Hi All

I've had an email from ebay saying a buyer has tried to open an item not received case on an item that was posted on Tuesday. The sale finished at midnight on 27th Feb (Sunday) and my auctions all state that postage will be within 3 working days. The postage was 2nd class standard so no surprises that this item isn't yet with the buyer. Anyway this is the first email I've received from ebay like this - it does say it is too early for them to open a case but I should contact the buyer to avoid any further issues. I'm a bit cross really.....I've done all I said I would - exceeding my 3 day postage rule so I need to contact my buyer calmly. Do you suggest sending them a message explaining that the package was posted on Tuesday and should be with them soon? I don't want to come across as patronising but it's hard not to when it seems that they may be being unreasonable
Thanks
Rebecca

Oh, that's interesting, I've never heard of ebay doing that before!

As to your response, just send them a polite factual email, there's no reason it should come across as patronising.

Eg, my standard despatch email is something like:

    Dear Buyer

Many thanks for your purchase and prompt payment. Your parcel was despatched on xxxx and I have left positive feedback on your profile.

    Very best wishes

Do you leave positive feedback before the buyer has received item or left you feedback? I always do it the other way round in case there is a problem...

There is no right time at allto leave feedback, but generally speaking buyers tend to leave more feedback for sellers that leave it for them first. Also of course sellers can only leave a positive so it is even less important for buyers now.

If there is a problem then I'll have to deal with it whether I've already left feedback or not.

I leave feedback as soon as buyers have paid, which I hope will have a positive effect on their feelings about the transaction when they come to rate me. I then mention it in my despatch note just to remind/alert them to the feedback system, without actually outright asking them to leave feedback for me :D.

    now heres an interesting one
when i read your post,i went ot my ebay and picked a recent purchase
clicked i hadnt received the item,Ebay says its too soon and to wait(i had the item, but was just checking what ebay shows)
seller has messaged me to ask why i was trying to open a dispute
so the system must message the seller even when the buyer might just click the wrong link

There's no point in waiting if there's a problem - you have responsibilities that your buyer doesn't, in a way it's unfair to hold them to anything other than prompt payment.

Did you mark posted and sent a confirmation?
I once gave neutral fb partly because they had not confirmed postage, or marked posted (but not the only reason, item was also badly packaged).
