BMI Diamond Club - Anyone a member?

Hi

I've been fortunate this year that I've taken 2 family holidays to Antigua in May and October via BMI from Manchester to VC Bird, Antigua.

Several months after returning from the first holiday, I discovered that they had a Diamond Club so visited their website and printed off a form to subsequently claim the miles and open an account - after getting separate accounts set up, we received 8,000+miles each.

We then rebooked for October this time buying the flight separately to the hotel - which incidentally saved us over £1000 - we also got a great deal on the flight and got Premium Economy - which was cheaper than economy!!

About 3 weeks before the flight, we received a marketing e-mail saying that all flights upto 31 December would attract triple points - yeehaa.

Premium Economy attracts 1.5X Economy Miles and then with triple points meant that for the same flight as May we would each get 36,000+ miles.

So now both accounts are standing at 44,000 miles and we were wondering how to get to the magical 50,000 miles. 50,000 miles means FREE flight to the following destinations:-

Zone 4:-
Antigua, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil, Caribbean, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Martinique, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rica, St Lucia, St Thomas, Uruguay,Venezuela

Zone 6:-
Angola, Cote d'Ivoire, Mozambique, Namibia, Sao Tome Island, South Africa, Zimbabwe

Zone 10:-
India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan

So the issue was how do we get to 50,000 miles without booking another holiday and lo and behold, this week, we received another marketing e-mail offering a BMI Classic Mastercard - make one purchase within 90 days and we will credit your Diamond Club Account with 20,000 miles - Bingo!

Both applications were completed within a matter of minutes and accepted and so we can begin looking for next years holiday early in the New Year.

As an added bonus we have progressed from Diamond Club Blue Members to Diamond Club Silver Members - which gives the added benefit of enjoying the Executive Lounge and its FREE food and drink without charge.

Congrats and welcome to the world of DC:beer:

    A few tips;-

    1. MBNA, the issuing bank for the bmi card, tend to dump the 20K points into a newly created blue account. You may have to phone DC to merge accounts idc.

    2. Have you considered using miles plus cash, rather than miles alone for award redemptions? This is particularly helpful when travelling long haul in premium classess. For example UK (Zone 1)-USA (Zone 3) return using miles plus cash is 37,500 miles + £210 + tax. First class on the same route would be 50,000 miles + £280 + tax. Now compare this with the cash cost of premium long haul travel.

    3. Some travel awards from Zone 2 to the Far East are quite a bit cheaper than from Zone 1 (http://www.bmi.flyer.co.uk/spendmiles.html). Maybe a cheapo return to Zone 2 from your local LOCO airport would save some miles/dosh.

Now, can you persuade the wife to let you go on a Mileage Run to Vegas before the year end.....just for the triple miles, of course:D
