Can't add bank account to PayPal

Here's the situation.

My wife and I want to add our bank account to my paypal account instead of hers.

When we tried to do this, we were told we couldn't as that account was already linked with another paypal account.

So we removed the bank account from her paypal account and tried again

This time we were told we couldn't do that as that account had previously been linked with another paypal account.

So we tried to add it back to its original paypal account (hers) and were told we couldn't as it was CURRENTLY linked to another account!

So we now have no way of withdrawing my paypal funds. Any suggestions?
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
