Finding it difficult to get Travel Insurance

Hello Everyone,

Time is short and having problems finding travel insurance that I am allowed to have and will deal with problems and pay out if things happen.

I am at present resident in Japan - in a few weeks I will be returning to the UK for at least a year or so - before I go back flights being the cost they are from Tokyo I though it would be cool for a holiday in Thailand so on Dec 23rd 2006 I fly to Thailand I stay there till January 12th 2007 when I fly to Hong Kong ( HK airport for 9 hours) and then from there back to the Uk. It seems no one will cover me because I am not returning to my departure destination - even the student and backbacker sites came up with nothing and the number of no we can not cover you emails I have had from insurance companies is frightfully long and I have run out of ideas. Can anyone help me please.
Cheers Katie

Are you looking at single trip or annual insurance? Are you looking at providers in Japan or the UK?

Just for the travel to Thailand - medical cover is of the most importance flight delays etc I will live with what happens but if I get sick or hurt I need to be covered and I have found no one who will cover me because it seems I have to be returning to the place I am departing from (in this case Japan). But there must be something out there !!!!!!!!

If you are not resident in the UK you'll find cover virtually impossible to obtain. There are some worldwide companies (try the international travel agents sites like Trailfinders) but I eventually went for a French company to insure me. Compared to the UK the cost was far more €'s but c'est la vie.

guess you tried snowcard and dogtag?
  • Cheers Guys,

Snowcard already said No - Dogtag still waiting to hear from. Never heard of Trailfinders and going to the website seems to indicate I can have cover but it has no email address to contact anyone for confirmation. Read the policy (abridged online pdf version - tough on the eyes after the first two pages) Its not cheap and I can not it seems contact them to discuss, 0845 numbers being a real problem calling from Japan - in the past the person in the UK gets fustrated and hangs up and from Skype its a nightmare. Why can't companies have email contacts arrrrggg.
But hay its great - it looks posivive which is a real move ahead - thank you.
