Blue badge use, Advice please, Confused.

Taking the inlaws away (Skegness)

MIL has a blue badge, Got it after we took them away last year and have never used it.

Been looking at where and how long to park.

From what i have found 3 hours is the max parking time on yellow lines etc.

That sort of rules out a bit of shopping and dinner, We spent almost that long waiting to be served last time we took them away. We didnt eat there again.

Am i allowed to park for 3 hours then move the car to another street? If i can do that do i need her to be in the car when i do that?

I dont want to risk getting it wrong. But transferring her from the wheelchair to the car each time wouldnt be worth it.

Any tips from people who use them?

Thanks

you can park on any disabled bay, or car park,
in a street with yellow lines you can park in a disabled bay for longer than 3 hours
  • If you intend to be longer than 3 hours it would be better to use a car park with a disabled bay and many give you twice the time for your ticket etc (not as likely in private car parks though).

Technically yes you can move it to another street and no she wouldn't have to be in the car when you did it as people are allowed to use a blue badge when parking to drop off or pick up the badge holder.

    Hi forgotmynam,

Well, if you know where you are going - I take it from your post it is Skegness, then look up the council online and email asking about parking in that county. Some councils don't charge in car parks if you have a Blue Badge OR if you are tax exempt (your tax disc on your own car) - people with Blue badge only may have to pay while tax exempt do not! Different counties have different rules with blue badge parking.

Will you be driving MIL's car - if it has tax exempt disc? Or just using her Blue Badge?

If you send an email to the council, they will respond to your enquiry - this has been my experience.

I didn't know that, it;s really interesting to see. How do they differentiate between the two, is it stated on the parking charge meter or is theer a special symbol that designates this. I have a tax exempt car as well as the blue badge but just interested.
  • Car parks normally state on the board by the meters, When we have been to Weymouth, you have to pay in their car parks even with a blue badge and tax exempt car, whilst at home we have free parking in our local town...I have always found that the board states whether or not you have to pay..

She would have had all the relevant information with Blue Badge when she had it.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Hi kurgon, councils vary and it doesn't always state on car parking charge meter! It is always best to check with different councils of their rules, and of different car parks.

Sometimes they allow free parking if you have tax exempt car together with blue badge, maybe just with blue badge or sometimes charge whatever! It is best to check I always find!

The cars tax is not exempt its my personal car and we only take her to appointments and since last year taking
    them on holiday.

Seen a program on TV where they were watching blue badge users who were not the people registered to the blue badge.

They towed the cars away, I thought quite rightly, One guy said his mum was in the shopping centre. When confronted to where
about and they can go and see her he said he will phone her shes at home.

So i did think i could park in another street and not need to put her in the car, But i dont want to be at risk.

Parking in skegness last year was a nightmare, Due to the time it takes to get them and myself ready its not exactly early.
Car parks were quite full. All disabled bays were taken.

    Thanks

  • I think you will find you will have to pay in almost all the disabled spaces in car parks in Skeggy. I know because we used to go every week end when we had a van there and I have a blue badge.

You can only park on street for 3 hours and the wardens are very keen there so watch out!!

    Hope this helps
