is it worth taking out the extra insurance for sky + HD box and equipment

After a number of years we have just returned to sky and have the sky+ HD box. After looking through the paperwork, we note the box and other related items are covered for 12 months after this we are responsible for any repairs/replacements. Is it worth taking out their insurance plan at almost £9 amonth? What do you recommend is the best option for us.

No, if the box breaks after 12months threaten to leave unless it gets fixed for free. Or buy one from ebay

No it is not worth it.put it like this.

I've had a Sky system since the Digital came out & subscribed on & off over the years. In all that time I have had one service call for a borked Sky+ box (about a year after Sky+ came out) which cost me £60.(They're now £65 call out charge)
You take out a 'repair plan' for a year. There's £108 which is £43 MORE than you'd pay for a single service call! Times that by X years, say ten years, theres over £1000 'just in case' your Sky system goes faulty & you have one service call in those ten years.Think how much money you've 'thrown away! It's not like car or house insurance which is vital. This is just a con to get more money from Sky customers & only the stupid, gullable or insane would take one out. And that's my position as an ex-Sky engineer.
Now the advice by jb66 is correct, you can do that but sometimes they will call your bluff or even offer you a half price service call.
    BTW,
If you have a service call, you get three month guarantee with it as well,so again, you'd still be paying £27 over them three months when you are covered by said guarantee.
  • no, if it does not work, then tell sky to stuff it. For the first 12 months they have to mend it anyway and then after that you are out of a contract, think they have a cheek.
Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 2016
