Are Virgin having me on or is this a great deal????

Hi newbie here, sorry if I have posted in the wrong place, I was with virgin media with my tv, BB & Home Phone. I wasnt happy with my services really so thought I'd cancel my contract with Virgin, phoned them up telling them I wish to cancel , after asking why I wanted to leave I told them a couple of reason's for my wanting to leave and wasnt given any deals or anything just told that I'll recieve my final bill in the post and my services would be cut off in 30 days, had Sky installed bout a week ago but recieved a phone call from Virgin yesterday asking if I would reconsider staying with them, told them that I was pretty happy with the deal I got from Sky - tv (Everything except full movies (got movies 1) and sports), multi-room, BB & phone for £40pm (told a bit of a white lie with that
) (sky+hd box and normal sky box for bedroom).
The woman I spoke to told me she couldn't get a deal like that but can give me 2x v+hd boxes (multiroom obviously lol) XL TV WITH movies AND sports, 10meg BB (best in my area), phone (with LL price included), TV & BB on a 12 month contract & phone on an 18 month contract all for £42.50 PER MONTH!!!!!
Now am I being scammed in some way? when I phone up sky to say I was cancelling (yes I phoned them straight away financially better price than sky's quoted £81pm for same services) and they were really understanding that I am looking to spend the least amount of money Per Month, BUT they did explain that it sounds VERY cheap considering they are offering effectively sky's movies and sports cheaper and they advised me before cancelling that I phone virgin to make sure they are not trying to catch me out with small print or anything and don't want to get 3-4 months down line and find a bill for £80+ per month for all my services.
I phoned Virgin and I went through everything making sure I asked if that's including multi-room price, Line Rental etc.... etc.... they confirmed it.
Now my friend is with Virgin and wasnt happy as he has been with virgin for 2 years at least now and once I have everything will be having the exact same services as him and he is being charged £82 Per Month! He phoned them to enquire as to why he was paying that amount and if he can change his amount, their answer was that there is NO WAY that I could get an offer that low even the guy he spoke to reckoned he has that pack and isnt paying that much on staff discount! when my mate said that what if he could prove it (I suppose showing them my bill) could he get the price lowered and the guys answer: You got more chance of winning the Lottery!!!
Has anyone else had this type of offer before as I don't want to tie myself down to something if its too good to be true but maybe they really are trying to keep my custom.
If months down the line the price changes would I have a leg to stand on as it is a verbal contract I suppose.
Sorry for the long message but I wanted to make sure I covered everything and can go on a bit sometimes lol
cheers for reading

i'd be extremely surprised too if they could offer this, because aside from your mate i myself along with everyone else would be wanting a piece of it and phoning up to cancel, even tho theres no way i would actually go thru with it, but im not happy that i got an email the other day saying from april theyre gonna start charging me 90p month because i have an additional box in my house
yeah i do, but im already paying £5m for the privelige of the v+ box and dont intend to suddenly just start coughing up another 90p a month for having the standard box, which if they take away their v+ box and lose my £5m, they wont be able to charge anyway
getting back to your query tho, when i read it i too thought it must be too good to be true, sure theyre trying to trick you with words and all you'll probably be getting is the normal movies as in film4 tcm etc and sports like eurosport espn etc
if a sky package wasnt included, that would appear a more true offer, altho u r getting a fair bit for your buck, as i think when they had an offer of v+ boxes, it was £75 and an additional 1 would have to be normal price £150 - tho i dont know what they are selling for at present, i guess its only really a bit of hardware at the end of the day and they can lose that more easy in a one off lost payment rather than a continual 12m worth of money that would still need to be sent to sky and so out of their pockets completely
its a shame you went and got sky installed before your virgin contract had ran its 30 days because now i suspect you'd be liable to sky for some costs of some sort
if you do have a cooling off period with sky, i guess the best you could try for is get back to this person again and say okay if you can carry out the installs and confirm all this in writing before ??/??/2011 when i need to cancel sky i will stay with you, and see how they react to that
i wish you the best of luck and do let us know how you get on

Apparently everything has a happy ending and if you havent arrived at the happiness, it hasnt ended yet :think:0 -
Staff dont get it for that price, 10meg isnt the best in your area either (another lie). I reckon they havent added sky sports and movies to that deal.0

they did tell me that they will be sending me out a pack with ALL detail's in so once I have it in black and white I will update you on what is going on.
Sky have been really good in the fact that they have said that IF Virgin are trying to tie me down to a 'fake' contract then they will happily sort me out with signing back up with them.
With the sky charges luckily its a 30 day cooling off period which I have only been with them with TV (wasnt getting installed with BB & phone until next week) I only get charged for what Ive used and as I have paid them £30 already I will get that money back and have SOME money deducted for what Ive used so hopefully it wont be too much of the £30 taken off (although I can see most of it going)0 -
I think it's not possible myself.
The deal I got was 2 V+HD boxes with XL TV, XL Phone, L BB & Baby TV for £49 & the V+ activation charges waived.
I can't see how they would give you Sports & Movies (normal cost £29.50) on top of this, for less.Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.0 -
Thats what Sky said about the Sports & Movies but asked 3 different people and they are all adament that its included, I'm not sure if this is how they were going to try and sway me as I said I didnt have movies & sports with sky but wish I did coz movies could b for missus & kids and sports for me for footy etc...
Some heads will roll if they lied to me lol0 -
Well I finally got to the bottom of this, I decided to phone them this morning to ask what the packages were how much it was all going to come to etc... as I couldn't remember all details, told what I was going to get and when I said 'and that includes the movies and sports channels right?' their answer was NO they are premium channels if you want them we can add them onto the price!
I told them I wished to cancel as I only agreed to keep my services mainly because of the sports/movies chucked in, was put through to customer relations who confirmed that I could not get them cheaper as they pay sky for them and would lose out themselves, I did accpet that this was understandable but as I said the woman that I only agreed as I thought I was getting all of this. She asked me if that meant I wouldn't want to stay with them and I told her that unless there was a REALLY good offer with movies and sports included then sky is the way to go for me, She said she has sent an email to be urgently seen to find out about the confusion - considering I spoke to 4 people who said it included movies & sports prior to being told that it wasnt all it seemed - as i explained to the women the deal I got with Sky, BB TV & Phone everything apart from movies pack 2 & sports and that is £40 a month so don't want to pay £2.50 more for less channels.
I am awaiting this phone call from them to see what they reckon is gonna happen but have been in contact with Sky to say I may keep services and been told if so to phone they will reinstate my services and my BB/LL Appointment hasnt been cancelled so can still go live tomorrow afternoon so won't be disrupted with services, they have also told me I can have 6 months free line rental
don't know why they couldn't be straight with me and explain in the 1st place, I already told the mthat when it comes to these sort of things I'm not great at noting everything down (although this could be what they used to their advantage to get some commission)
will update here when I hear from Virgin too see what they say as to what has gone on0
