Paypal Payment Query

My husband has just won an auction on ebay, and intended on paying for it on a credit card which currently has £0 balance, so we could take advantage of the interest free period.
However, when he went to pay for it, he entered his paypal username and password and then it flashed up 'thank you for your payment' without giving him the option to select his funding source.
The money is being taken from his primary source which is his bank account, but there is not enough money in there to pay for the item!! He has the credit card as his back up source.
He rang paypal who said there is nothing he can do.
The bank account balance is not showing the available amount has been reduced by any amount yet, neither is his credit card. Does this mean Paypal haven't asked for any money yet from either source?
Can he transfer some money out of his bank account now to make sure there is no funds available, and then the payment will have to come from the credit card? Or will they have already requested the money from the bank? Don't want him to get charged for going overdrawn over his authorised limit!
Hope that makes sense!

It takes about 4 working days for a payment to leave your bank with paypal,IF there is no money in the account or any other problem Paypal will use the other funding source IE the credit card.
He could still get charged, but you could log into Paypal and remove the bank account and that way Paypal will take the payment from the card.0 -
Is the bank account capable of going overdrawn? If so the paypal payment will just overdraw it and you get to pay lots of horrible unauthorised overdraft fees.
Try and get money into the account to cover it ASAPI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Paypal won't let him remove the bank account as it says there is a pending transaction. He has cancelled the direct debit with his bank, so hopefully that will reject the payment request and force the money from the credit card.
Annoying, as apparently the only reason he didn't get to select his payment option was because he went through ebay checkout and not directly through his paypal account. He had no idea this would give him no funding source option! He won't make that mistake again!Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

This is my worry! Yes, it can go overdrawn, he already has an authorised overdraft on the account. If they take this payment out, it will send him over the authorised limit.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

In which case, he couldn't afford the item in the first place really, could he?0 -

Course he could!
It just happens that the bank account he uses for ebay isn't the one we use for our wages & bills etc. so doesn't sit there with loads of money in it. It doesn't mean we have no money to afford the item. He has just been in to the bank now to pay the cash in to cover the amount paypal would take. He just wanted to use the 0% interest on the credit card to buy it, whilst money from his other auctions cleared, therefore costing him nothing immediately.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

Strange, I use the ebay checkout all the time and on the top left corner of the paypal screen, before confirmation, there is always the option to change payment method.0

Well I would have sworn we had used the same checkout before too, but this just went through in a flash. Very odd!Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

Same for me, it always shows me a bit where I can change the funding source, I have never paid for anything that just whizzes through, in fact i get bored with all the blooming screens asking me if i really do want to make the payment.
I do hope ebay aren't tinkering again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. That is the problem here though - no paypal screen came up. He was on ebay, clicked to pay, entered his paypal email address and password, and then the screen showed 'thank you for your payment'. It never left the ebay screen. We've never had this problem before when logging into paypal normally and making a payment via the paypal website. Just a bit confused by it all really - but nevermind. The money is in the bank to cover it now.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015
