Applying for more than 1 credit card, to see which one I will get

After doing a pre-checker on the banks website, it has indicated that I have a good chance of being accepted for two types of cards. One has a decent interest rate, and the other one is very high. Please note that these pre-checker application might be misleading, as it's not a full application. When a full application is done, I might be refused for one or even both.
I would like to ask the bank to put through an application for both of those cards, and see which one I will get. Is this allowed? If I get accepted for both, I will choose the one with the lowest interest rate, instead of the higher one. Not sure if they will offer an alternative type of card, so that's why I'm asking about this.
I could apply online, but will be applying in branch, as I like to deal with things in person.

No point of applying for both at the same time if you are only going to accept one of them. It will result in 2 credit searches. Best thing to do is apply for the one with the lower interest rate first, if you don't get that speak to an advisor to see what they recommend.0

If you apply for Platinum, and don't pass the check, but do pass the check for an Initial or Classic card, Barclaycard will send you out an application form for the Initial or Classic and open the appropriate account upon return of the formCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

When in branch, I'm just going to say something like 'I would like to apply for a credit card, and wonder if you could open one that matches my customer profile, spending patterns, income, and personal circumstances'.
Hopefully, they would open the appropriate credit card.0
