MBNA - Virgin Atlantic Card

Hi there....

Virgin has recently moved over to web based statements and so a hard copy does not get posted to me anymore. I used to pay by cheque in addition to the monthly DD.

However, now its electronic statements, I no longer have access to the credit slips that come with a hard copy. On the electronic statement it says: -

"You have opted out of receiving paper statements so if you normally make your monthly payment by post or at a bank, you will need to use an alternative method of payment."

Can they do this? To get posted statements again, they want to charge £5 per month?

Thanks for your help

  • Yes, they can. You were given the option of staying with paper statements for no charge when they announced the switch to web. But if you didn't take advantage of this, it looks like you're now stuck with the charge.

It might be worth phoning up and pleading your case. Tell them your internet is unreliable or something. They might cut you some slack.

Just pay the extra via your online banking - faster payments is of course much better than cheque :o

I've cancelled my VA card now but I seem to remember being able to pay the card online when logged into VA acct, with the debit card, rather than bacs. it was 2 days rather then 4.
Dont remember faster payments working with MBNA, but may be now.
  • You can print out the official PDF copy of a statement I believe.

Just been charged 2 months worth of fee's by these cowboys - only got a letter after 2nd month!

Paid off over £2,500 in one go. They say I missed £15 but informed me via their 'online system'. I have checked my emails and have never received anything. So after £60 of charges I've cancelled them.

Shame they've probably now screwed my credit score over.

No charge to switch back to paper statements-just call 0800062062. Old copies are £4 odd each. Go for a top-up standing order in addition to the DD-simpler, or check the max limit on your banks faster payment service as if you sent a faster payment on a business day before lunch it should update the same night, BACS takes 4 business days.
